Doris Elliott grew up in the Schwartz Homes on Wright Place. A teenage mom and a survivor of domestic violence, Doris overcame many obstacles to become a community leader and a proud candidate for City Council in the city she calls home.
Since 1992, Doris has been a school bus driver, proudly serving the children and families of New Brunswick. She went back to school and, in 2010, Doris graduated from the New Brunswick Adult Learning Center because she believes it is never too late to grow, improve yourself, and set an example for your family.
Doris is a wife of 30 years to her husband, Craig Elliott, and raised her family here in New Brunswick. She is a mother of four — all graduates of New Brunswick High School — and a proud grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren. She currently serves as the New Brunswick Education Association shop steward for her colleagues in the New Brunswick Public Schools Transportation Department. She is also an active member of several city-based organizations, including the Sharon Baptist Church and Progressive Lodge No. 30, where she has been an Eastern Star since 2014.
Doris was motivated to run for City Council after the tragic killing of Deborah Terrell, a senior citizen who was shot and killed by a city police officer. She believes that New Brunswick deserve leadership that understands real life and puts the needs of our residents first.
